Co-optex sales to touch Rs. 120 crore

Special Correspondent

It is likely to post Rs. 3-crore profit this year

  • Aggressive marketing strategies, restructuring of administrative machinery pay dividends
  • Showrooms making losses are being closed and those doing well modernised

CHENNAI: Co-optex is likely to increase its retail sales this year to Rs.120 crore from last year's Rs.106 crore and to export products worth Rs. 5 crore as against Rs. 3.27 crore last year.

It is likely to end the year posting a profit of Rs. 3 crore.

Sources in Co-optex said the aggressive marketing strategies and restructuring of the administrative machinery, which paid dividends during 2005-06, would be adopted this year too. While showrooms making losses were being closed, those doing well were being modernised. In the current year, the Co-optex planned to increase the number of showrooms running on profit from 75 to 125.

Wherever showrooms were not available, Co-optexwould organise exhibitions. These would be conducted both in the State and outside.

    Tie-up with other States

It would tie up with the handloom departments of other States. It had already entered into such an agreement with Andhra Pradesh.

    Kancheepuram saris

To improve the saleability of silk saris made in Kancheepuram, Co-optex proposed to sell on a "consignment" basis at the prices fixed by primary cooperatives. To offer a better and attractive product range, Co-optex had been introducing new designs, new colours, and new products, engaging educational institutions that have textile designing in their curricula.

    To tap young talent

The aim was to utilise the young talents in textile design, the sources said.

Co-optex exports terry towels, furnishing material, bedspreads, tablecloth and shirting fabric to many countries, especially those in West Asia and South Asia.
