Schoolboy run over

Chennai: An eleven-year-old boy was run over by a speeding car near Muttukadu on East Coast Road on Independence Day.

Neelangarai police, who are investigating the accident, said Shanthakumar was a resident of Muttukadu. He had just left home and had to cross the road to reach the bus stop. He was to board an MTC bus to reach his school at Kovalam, about three kilometres away, to take part in the Independence Day celebrations. The boy was taken in the same vehicle to a private hospital in Neelangarai where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
