"CB-CID must probe land grabbing cases"

Staff Reporter

Conference on Thursday at Kamaraj Arangam

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and Ahila India Vivasayayigal Sangam have demanded a thorough probe into all major land grabbing cases reported in many districts of the State by the CB-CID police.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, office-bearers K. Balakrishnan and S. Thirunavukkarasu said that they had gathered as many details as possible across the State on the land grabbing incidents.

Official connivance

In most cases, it had taken place with the connivance of officials of various departments.

For instance, 42,000 acres of land had been grabbed by "notable" personalities in and around Kodaikanal hills. Similarly, they had details of land grabbing and encroachment of poromboke land in Salem district, they claimed.

The Sangam has planned to organise a one-day conference on Thursday at Kamaraj Arangam in Teynampet Chennai in which issues including allocation of fallow lands to landless labourers by the State Government and distribute forest land pattas to Adivasis among others would be discussed.

The CPM State secretary N. Varadarajan would inaugurate the conference in which leaders from various trade unions would address, they added.
