CHENNAI
: A youth was jailed after he was charged with stealing a computer and accessories from a showroom in Nungambakkam in a "novel" way.
Police said Jayachandran, who runs a computer shop on Valluvarkottam Salai, had lodged complaint that a computer and other valuables were missing from his shop. He said that on August 12, he had locked the shop and gone home. When he returned on Monday he noticed the equipment missing.
Nungambakkam police formed a special team to probe the case. Their investigation led to the questioning of Sashanth, who had resigned from the shop recently and joined another shop in Zam Bazaar area.
It was found that he had picked up an office boy working in Jayachandran's shop and got him drunk. Sashanth then took the shop key from him and stole the computer and other accessories, the police said. After locking the premises, he returned home and quietly placed the key with the office-boy who was fast asleep.
Based on his confession, police recovered the stolen goods from Sashanth's possession. After registering a case, he was remanded to custody.
Commissioner of Police Letika Saran has commended the special team for its swift action, a press note issued here on Wednesday stated.
