Tirupur: A six-member gang struck the house of a businessman in Tirupur town and decamped with cash, jewellery, valuables and a car at gunpoint early on Wednesday. According to the police, the gang gained entry into the house of Ashok Jain (43) at Jain Nagar, Rakkiapalayam, in Tirupur through the back door. The robbers threatened the family members at gunpoint and took the safe vault keys. After tying up the family members the gang looted Rs. 19 lakh, close to 90 sovereigns of gold jewellery, two cellular phones and other electronic gadgets.
Investigation
The gang members were conversing in a Tamil dialect, the police said. They warned the family members that they would be gunned down if raised any alarm. The robbers escaped in Ashok's car after latching the main door from outside. The neighbouring districts have been alerted. The Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, A.T. Duraikumar and the DIG of Police, Coimbatore Range, M.N. Manjunatha, visited the scene of crime and held inquiries. Finger print experts and forensic experts were pressed into service.
