Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a series of vehicle thefts in the State. Thampanoor Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheen Tharayil identified the accused as Sadu, alias Chandrasekhara Nair. The police said as many as 10 vehicle thefts reported in the past year were traced to the accused. Sadu was arrested near Thampanoor while driving a car reported stolen from Kottayam this week. The police said they recovered several registration certificate books of stolen vehicles from his possession. The SI said the accused specialised in lifting vehicles and selling them to unsuspecting persons after altering the engine, chassis and vehicle registration numbers. The police were in the process of recovering five lorries and four vans stolen at night from parking bays on the basis of the confessional statement of Sadu. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
Theft: two held
The rural police arrested two persons on the charge of stealing electrical wiring equipment from the godown of a private company in Kazhakuttam. The accused were identified as Sabu, 23, and Anil Kumar, 30. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
