Thiruvananthapuram: The first phase of the renovated foot overbridge near the entry point of the reservation office in Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station was commissioned by Pannian Ravindran, MP, at a function here on Wednesday. The first phase of the renovation work - - replacing the floor with non-slippery tiles - - cost the Railways Rs.2 lakh. In the second phase, rust-free stainless steel hand bars, lighting, train information display and polycarbonate roofing would be provided in the bridge. The second phase would cost Rs.5 lakh. According to the Railways, many "touch and feel" items would be taken up for improvement at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station and other major stations in the division. As part of the programme, the renovation work of the waiting room of the central station was in progress. The Railways issued a list of "touch and feel'' points to the zonal railway. Maintenance of high standard of cleanliness in trains and railway stations, better lighting, particularly on platforms and waiting halls, improvement of waiting hall, booking, reservation, information centres and parking areas would be the focus of the railway stations designated as "touch and feel'' points. Divisional Railway Manager S. Vijayakumaran, Additional Divisional Railway Manager H. Sulthan Mushathick were present at the function.
