KOCHI: The Mudra Centre for Dance, in association with the Rotary Club of Cochin, will organise a programme at the Rotary Bal Bhavan here on Saturday as part of its first anniversary celebrations. The programme, scheduled to begin at 6.30 p.m., is open to the public. Padma Menon, artistic director of Mudra, said here on Thursday that the programme had been named `Dance life.' " It will also mark the official launch of the Dhuman method, based on integrating dance and life. Dhuman uses techniques from all over the world and is specifically designed for finding an inner balance and expression," she said. Referring to the increasing use of Western elements in Indian classical dance, Ms. Menon said there was no need for it as classical dance had a rich tradition. She said Mudra had been offering classes to several persons during the past year. Classes for women were designed to focus on well-being and creative expression. The advanced classes taught choreography based on Indian classical styles. Ms. Menon said the aim of Mudra was to make classical traditions more meaningful in the modern world.
