Farmers' welfare board sought

Pondicherry: The president of the ad hoc committee of the Pondicherry unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), G. Sundaramoorthy, has called upon the administration to constitute a farmers' welfare board.

He said in a release here on Thursday that farm labourers were in an unenviable predicament and hence the welfare board the party was seeking should address the problems of the farm labourers also. This would be taken up with Union Agriculture Minister and president of the NCP Sharad Pawar.

He said Mr. Pawar in consultation with general secretary T.P. Peethambaran Master had constituted an ad hoc committee under his (Mr. Sundaramoorthy's) presidentship.

The other members are: A.K. Palaniyandi (vice president), V.S.K. Ravichandran (general secretary), D. Selvam (secretary) and T. Subramanian (treasurer).
