Corrections and clarifications

  • A pointer in the infobox that accompanied the lead story "Manmohan readies for debate" (August 17, 2006, page 1) was: "[Manmohan Singh] Consults key officials responsible for plotting the agreement." As a few readers have pointed out that, it should have been "Consults key officials responsible for piloting the agreement." The text had the right word.

  • In the report "Perseverance helps Unnamalai get a break in life" (Tamil Nadu, August 16, 2006), a feature on a visually challenged woman, the sentence was: "She wanted to pack matches. But I did agree because in the event of a fire she would not have been be able to respond immediately." As a reader says, it should have been "She wanted ... But I did not agree ... ."

  • The heading of the feature (Chennai city, August 16, 2006, page 2) was "A unique arecord". It should have been "A unique record". It was on how two sisters and their brother have the distinction of not taking even a day off in school.
