Hubli-Dharwad
Staff Correspondent
HUBLI: Members of Hubli Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Association laid a siege to the office of Weights and Measures at Keshwapur in Hubli on Thursday in protest against the alleged negligence of the officials. The protestors alleged that because of faulty calibration of the auto fare metres, the Regional Transport Authority had rejected the applications of 30 autorickshaw drivers. As a result, they had to get the calibration done once again and apply for certification, they said. They alleged that the officials were certifying calibration without properly checking it and consequently the autorickshaw drivers and owners were forced to pay twice for getting certification. The office-bearers of the association Imtiyaz Jamadar, David Goni and Devanand Jagapur urged the senior officials of the department to cancel the licenses of those who had been authorised to calibrate auto fare metres in the twin cities. They also urged them that the expenses involved in applying for certification once again should be borne by those authorised to calibrate the metres. P.C. Arajugi, Assistant Controller of the department, who received the memorandum from the protestors, assured them of action within 10 days.
