Respect the tricolour

It was painful to see small plastic tricolours, discarded after the I-day celebrations, strewn all over Hyderabad. Organisers of the celebrations in various places did not care to remove them and keep them in safe custody for reuse. It is the responsibility of every Indian to show due respect to our symbols of independence.

P.B. Sundara Rajan,
Hyderabad

Once the Independence Day celebrations are over, miniature plastic flags are thrown in garbage cans, and street corners. There is urgent need for the authorities to ban plastic Indian flags. School students, particularly NCC cadets, and girl guides and boy scouts should be assigned the task of collecting discarded flags and disposing them of decently after the celebrations.

Cajetan Peter D'Souza,
Mumbai
