"MILES TO GO": A painting by Reema Bansal
A psychology student at Lady Shri Ram College, Reema Bansal is mounting a five-day solo exhibition of her paintings at the All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society gallery in New Delhi from August 26 to 30. Titled `Strokes-III', the paintings, mostly oil on canvas, by 20-year-old physically challenged Reema, depict the varied moods of the mind of a young adult. Speaking about her work, Reema states that each painting is different from the other and the themes are highly varied, revolving from situational to abstract. However, one thing that remains constant is her optimism. With two solo exhibitions behind her, Reema feels that she has grown with each painting. Meanwhile, 15 per cent of the exhibition's proceeds will be donated to Indian Vision Foundation, a non-government organisation working for the education of children in slums and welfare of prisoners. "I have tried to capture the intensity of nature in `Nature at Play', which is one extreme, while my painting `Grandpa!' speaks of the innocence of a child. The colours I have used are bold and the brush, I feel, doesn't limit me; it in fact lets me express myself freely,'' says Reema. Reema has recently completed a course in art appreciation and she feels it has allowed her to combine her love for art and writing beautifully well. "It made me believe in the power of art more than ever before,'' says Reema. -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
