Pradeep, Harish steal the show

Hyderabad: M. Pradeep, who came up with a fine all-round performance scoring 173 (24x4, 1x6) and then claimed five for eight with his leg-spin, and Siva Harish (168, 22x4, 1x6), fashioned Raju's Cricket Club's emphatic 285-run win over Concord in the C division league cricket championship here. Batting first, Raju's CC scored 420 for eight.

In reply, Concord folded up for 135 in 19.4 overs with Pradeep taking five wickets and Siva Harish a brace.

The scores: Raju's CC 420 for eight (M.Pradeep 173, Siva Harish 168) bt Concord 135 (Pradeep five for eight).

Yousuf wins hat-trick

A hat-trick by right-in Yousuf helped St. Andrews High School score a comfortable 4-2 win over Vignan Prabodananda Vidyaniketan in the quarterfinals of the Sachdev Sports inter-school football tournament at Trimulgherry Village here.

Yousuf struck in the fifth minute off a pass from left-half Nitin, then in the 37th minute off a direct free-kick. In the second session, he scored again thanks to a lovely through pass by right-half Clinton, son of former India captain Victor Amalraj, in the 45th minute. John Sudhir completed the tally for the winner in the 48th minute. For the loser, Aditya Reddy and Suryakanth Sahu were the scorers.

Government School (Trimulgherry) scored a hard-fought 4-2 win via tie-breaker over Ivy Academy to move into the semifinals. ShaikhAli put Ivy Academy ahead in the 46th minute only to see the opponent level the scores in the dying minutes through Narender. In the tie-breaker, Raghu, Rahul and Arul Raj were successful for the winner, while only Mooba was on target for the loser.

Sahiti in semifinals

Sahiti Krishna blanked Manas Vani 6-0 in the girls' under-10 quarterfinals of the YMCA Independence Day mini and sub-junior tennis tournament at Hyderabad YMCA here.

CCOB triumphs

The City College Old Boys team defeated CRPF 38-34 in the final of the CCOB one-day basketball tournament at City College on Thursday. Lokesh (8) and Habib (7) were the main scorers for the winner while Nishikanth (9) top-scored for the loser.

Earlier in the semifinals, CCOB defeated JHIC 25-24 while CRPF downed NBA 56-45.

Stephen finishes fifth

K. Stephen Paul of Hyderabad, runner-up in the National ice-skating championship (under-19), finished fifth in the just-concluded Swiss Inline Cup road skating championship in Switzerland. Incidentally, he happens to be the first Indian to accomplish this in an event featuring 200 competitors worldwide. He also took part in the International Grand Prix roller-skating championship in Belgium from August 11 to 13 and finished in the top 20.

District athletics

The Hyderabad District Athletics Association will organise its District championships for boys and girls (under-14 and 16 years) at the Lal Bahadur Stadium on August 24. An athlete may compete in only two events. The District team to take part in the fourth National inter-district championships to be held at Hosur from November 4 to 6 will be picked during the event. Sports meet put off

The State-level women's sports meet in Group IV to be held from August 20 to 22 has been put off to August 29 on the request of the District Sports Authority of Ranga Reddy as the playfields are not yet ready. The meet will witness competitions in volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi. The State team for the forthcoming National women's sports to be held in Srinagar from September 22 to 25 will be picked during the above event.
