Thiruvananthapuram: The Railways have appealed to the public to cooperate with it in running rail services on time. A release issued by the Southern Railway on Thursday said rail services were being disrupted owing to the agitation by a section of people in Ernakulam against the proposed railway link to the container transhipment terminal Vallarpadam. The Railways operate 53 express and 58 passenger trains on an average in the State. "The rail alignment for the Vallarpadam project is not decided by the Railways. A viable railway line has to be laid for efficient operation. Many agencies are involved in finalising the alignment to the proposed terminal at Vallarpadam," the statement said. The Railways have appealed to the public not to block the trains. Hampering the smooth movement of trains will result in disruption of rail services in the State and movement of goods train.
