NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday slapped contempt notices on the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Harsharan Singh Balli and 24 other individuals and business establishments for breaking open the seals in their premises in defiance of the apex court judgment dated February 16. A three-Judge Bench comprising Chief Justice Y. K. Sabharwal, Justice C. K. Thakker and Justice P. K. Balasubramanyan directed the 25 respondents to show cause in four weeks why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them. The Bench passed the order after perusing the affidavit filed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that the BJP MLA and others had tampered with the seals of shops that were closed pursuant to the Court's February 16 judgment. Mr. Balli, who is already facing the contempt charge for allegedly breaking open the seals in the West Delhi area, was on Thursday issued a fresh notice in connection with the FIRs lodged by MCD at the Rajouri Garden police station in West Delhi.
