House construction advance raised; new Urdu award approved

LUCKNOW: In what is considered a pre-election sop, the Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday revised the ceiling limit for house construction advance permissible to State Government employees under the Fifth Pay Commission.

The revision was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Following the decision, the ceiling limit for house building advance has been raised from Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 7.5 lakh. Besides, the advance ceiling for renovating houses has been raised from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1.8 lakhs.

Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai told newspersons that the old rates of house building advance were not in sync with the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission, but after the revision parity has been restored between the employees' wages and house building advance.

The Cabinet also approved a new award for Urdu literature carrying a prize money of Rs. 51,000. Only the State Government employees would be eligible for the award which would be given separately for Urdu poetry and Urdu prose. Each award will carry separate prize money of Rs 51,000. Besides, four awards for outstanding work in Hindi literature were also introduced, each carrying prize money of Rs. 51,000. These awards were proposed by State Employees Literature Academy. The money for hosting the award functions was also raised from Rs. 15,000 to Rs 25,000.

UNI adds: The employees would continue to enjoy the rebate of 2.5 per cent on interest, if they make the repayment on time.

In another decision, the Government approved high quality construction work at two proposed medical colleges at Jalaun and Kannauj, where the Government had already sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the purpose.

The Government also decided to continue the services of eight teaching staff in State medical colleges who had been appointed on the High Court direction even after being overaged.
