Burglar held, but not the bureau puller

Staff Reporter

Their modus operandi similar: police

TAMBARAM : The Madipakkam police have arrested a burglar who is reported to have committed crimes in a mode similar to that of the elusive bureau puller.

The police said 40-year-old Settu of Dharmapuri district was involved in about 10 cases in the suburban areas of Madipakkam, Adambakkam and Nanganallur.

He would cut open mosquito screens fixed on windows and take away whatever valuables he could lay his hands on.

Involved in 68 cases

According to the police, they had recovered jewels weighing 45 sovereigns from the burglar. Sources confirmed that though he operated in the manner of the elusive bureau puller who is involved in 68 cases and has amassed more than 700 sovereigns of jewels, he was not the one special teams were looking for.

However, the police suspect Settu to be an accomplice of the bureau puller and hope to get close to the elusive criminal, who has been at large since 2000.
