Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday for maintenance work in Vyasarpadi, V.O.C. Nagar, TV Pet, Flower Bazaar, Thirumullaivoyal, Avadi, Puzhal and Royapuram areas.

Blood donation

The blood bank of the Indian Red Cross Society held a blood donation camp at Dr. Gunguswamy Matriculation School, Ponneri. A. Sridhar Babu, founder-president, Nethaji Social Organisation, led the initiative.

Handicrafts expo

Srushti, an organisation of the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Artisans Welfare Association, has launched a display and sale of handicrafts in connection with Vinayaka Chaturthi at its sales emporium on 86, Chamiers Road, Sudarsan Building, Alwarpet. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till August 27. Handicraft items are priced from Rs. 20 to Rs. 1.50 lakh. A 10 per cent discount is on offer.

Teacher training Institute

Vailankanni Group of Institutions has opened a pre-primary Teacher Training Institute (TTI) in Avadi for students who have passed Class X, Plus Two and above.

The TTI is affiliated to Bharat Sevak Samaj. Admissions are open for pre-primary teacher training, nursery teacher training and creche and pre-school management. Classes will be conducted from September on Saturdays and holidays. Healthy baby contest

The Devraj Manickchand Maternity Hospital in Sowcarpet, a unit of the Shree Jain Medical Relief Society, organised a healthy baby contest for its newborn in connection with Independence Day celebrations. A team of doctors along with judges from the organisation Prayas examined the babies and decided the winners.

Kantilal Sanghvi, chairman and Parasmal Surana, secretary of the institution, distributed the prizes.

Padma Rajan and Padmakumari, doctors at the hospital, coordinated the programme.

Entrance exam coaching
