Kandaleru water likely to reach Uthukottai by weekend
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
Water released from the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh travelled 75 km of the total distance of 152 km by Thursday evening on its way to Tamil Nadu. The discharge was increased to 1,350 cusecs on Thursday, an official of the Public Works Department said here. Water was released from the reservoir, which has storage of 26.5 thousand million cubic feet, on Tuesday. The water would reach at Uthukottai on the Tamil Nadu border during the weekend, the official said.
The discharge is likely to be stepped up further to facilitate realisation of 1,000 cusecs, the full capacity of the canal at Uthukottai, near the zero point in Tamil Nadu. Measures have been taken to store water in the Poondi reservoir, which now has 297 million cubic feet of water.
