Development officers to stage dharna

KOCHI: A joint forum of development officers of four public sector general insurance companies will observe a black day and hold a silent dharna in front of the regional office of the New India Assurance Company here on Friday.

The protest is to press for revising their wages and promoting them.

The wages of all other classes of employees were revised eight months ago, said a statement from Ramesh S. Pillai, convenor of the forum.

The forum was formed in the State consequent to the formation of such a forum at the all-India level.

Three major organisations are part of the joint forum.

According to the statement, an attempt is being made to eliminate the cadre of development officers by bringing in other marketing channels.
