KOCHI: A fire at a petrol pump at Vaduthala led to tense moments on Thursday. The pump is in a residential area. Fire and Rescue Services personnel said traces of petrol were ignited by a spark from a motorcycle, causing the fire. Four fire engines from the Gandhi Nagar and Club Road fire stations put out the fire before it spread. A tanker was emptying petrol to the pump when the mishap occurred. A witness said timely intervention of Peter, a painter working at a nearby building, who closed the valves to the pump and the tanker, helped to avert a major accident. Some of the residents have come up with complaints against operating the pump in the residential area.
