S. Guptan Nair commemoration meet

Thiruvananthapuram: The Sarvodaya Mandalam will organise a function at the Press Club hall here on Saturday to commemorate S. Guptan Nair. Minister for Education M.A. Baby will present the Guptan Nair Memorial Essay Award to Jayakrishnan Vaipoor. Chairman of the Indian Council of Gandhian Studies N. Radhakrishnan will deliver the commemoration lecture. Chairman Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi P. Gopinathan Nair will preside over the function.

SBT launches tax saver deposit scheme

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Bank of Travancore (SBT) on Wednesday launched a new deposit scheme called `SBT Tax Saver Term Deposit Scheme.' In a press release, the bank said interest up to Rs.1 lakh a year from deposits in this scheme would get tax deduction under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. The bank offers eight per cent interest on such deposits made for a period of five years. The annualised return from the deposit is 9.72 per cent. Premature withdrawal is not possible and nomination facility is offered except in the case of deposits in the name of minors.

`Know U.K Quiz' tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 200 teams of school students are expected to take part in the `Know U.K. Quiz' to be organised by the British Library at the AKG Memorial Hall here on Saturday. .The prizes would be given away by Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto at 4 p.m., the press note said. — Staff Reporter

Office-bearers elected

Thiruvananthapuram: S. Sasidharan and G. Bhuvanendran Nair have been re-elected president and general secretary respectively by the golden jubilee conference of the Kerala Local Fund Audit Association. The other office-bearers are Francis E. Augustin, working president; V. Saradamma, B. Anil Chandrakumar, O.N. Mohan, K.A. Francis and A.R. Jithendran, vice-presidents.
