THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Raids were conducted on 77 shops in and around the city by officers of the Civil Supplies Corporation following complaints of profiteering at these establishments. A press note issued on Thursday said the raids at Palayam, Peroorkada, Chala, Vizhinjam and Neyyattinkara were ordered by District Collector N. Ayyappan. Cases have been registered against the shops where the price list had not been displayed and where excessive price was being charged for vegetables and other essential goods. Of these, two are hotels, 11 grocery shops and five shops selling vegetables. The Collector said stringent action would be taken against shops that levy excessive prices for vegetables and other essential goods. Action would be taken without notice against shops that charge excessive prices and shops where the price list is not displayed. In such cases, the goods in the shops would be seized and a fine levied, the press note said. Mr. Ayyappan requested that when complaints are made against a shop, its name or number or any such identifying feature be included.
