Lakshmipathy, new PTI Chairman



R. Lakshmipathy

New Delhi: R. Lakshmipathy, publisher of Tamil daily Dinamalar, was on Friday unanimously elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press Trust of India, succeeding Shobhana Bhartia of the Hindustan Times.

N. Ravi, Editor of The Hindu, was unanimously elected Vice-Chairman, in place of Mr. Lakshmipathy after the 58th Annual General Meeting here.

Besides Mr. Lakshmipathy and Mr. Ravi, other members of the Board are: Ms. Bhartia, Philip Mathew (Malayala Manorama), M.P. Veerendrakumar (Mathrubhumi), Pravinchandra V. Gandhi (Janmabhoomi), Vineet Kumar Jain (Times of India), Aveek Kumar Sarkar (Ananda Bazaar Patrika), Vijay Kumar Chopra (Hind Samachar), Shekhar Gupta (Indian Express), K.N. Shanth Kumar (Deccan Herald) and Mahendra Mohan Gupta (Jagran).

Eminent physicist E.V. Chitnis, the former Chief Justice of India, S.P. Bharucha, and eminent jurist Fali S. Nariman represent public interest on the Board.

Mr. Lakshmipathy was PTI Chairman in 1998-99. He has held key positions in media-related associations. He was president of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), president of the Indian Language Newspapers Association (ILNA) and member of the Press Council of India (PCI). — PTI
