Digital movie in Malayalam released

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan launched the first Malayalam digital movie Moonamathoral at a colourful function here on Friday evening.

The film, shot on digital format, is being released at 80 theatres across the State simultaneously from one point using digital technology. According to the producers and distributors of the movie Emil and Eric Digital Films, the new technology has helped them to reduce the cost of production drastically as it totally avoids the use of film.

This is the first full-length fiction movie in the world to have achieved such a feat, they claimed.

Speaking on the occasion, Gopalakrishnan said the arrival of digital technology is a welcome excitement in the movie field as it can eventually liberate cinema from middlemen who squeeze both the producer and the viewer to make money.

Therambil Ramakrishnan, K.M. Mani, P.C. George and Rajaji Mathew Thomas, MLAs, Collector M. Beena and several personalities from the film field were among those who were present on the occasion.
