Ojha, Prem bowl well

CHENNAI: SPIC-TNCA XI took control on day one, three Rajasthan batsmen made half-centuries as did three from TNCA President's XI, but the highlights of the second round of the Mindteck-Buchi Babu tournament were six-wicket hauls from Pragyan Ojha and Rohan Prem.

At SRMC turf, Rajasthan compiled 319 for nine with contributions from opener Rohit Sharma (85, 186b, 7x4, 1x6), left-hander Dishant Yagnik (58, 97b, 4x4, 1x6), and Afroz Khan (50 not out, 60b, 3x4, 2x6).

Sharma put on 71 for the first wicket with Vaithav Deshpande (42) and added a further 71 with Nikhil Doru (40). Left-armer Jagdesh Patel took four wickets for Gujarat, which closed at 17 for no loss in reply. Jalaj Saxena returned figures of four for 69 as Madhya Pradesh dismissed Mumbai Colts for 175 in 60.3 overs. Opener Ashok Kadam top-scored with 43. MP lost an early wicket, but recovered to finish at 77 for two.

Unchanged spell

Off-spinner Prem bowled an unchanged spell of 21.2-2-75-6 to help Kerala XI restrict TNCA President's XI to 292 in 89.2 overs. R. Prasanna (57, 108b, 6x4, 1x6) and Sunil Viswanathan (51, 58b, 7x4) added 89 for the fourth wicket. J. Syed Mohamed made a 76-ball 56 (5x4, 1x6).

Tamil Kumaran and Aashish Kapoor claimed three wickets each to bundle Tripura out for 118. SPIC-TNCA's reply was led by M. Vijat (88 batting, 106b, 7x4, 1x6) and S. Vidyut (72 batting, 130b, 9x4), who put on an unbroken 163 for the first wicket in 39 overs.

Nineteen-year-old Ojha scalped six with his slow left-arm spin as Maharashtra was dismissed for 207. In response, Hyderabad was 42 for one in 15 overs.

At SRMC turf: Rajasthan 319 for nine in 90 overs (Vaithav Deshpande 42, Rohit Sharma 85, Nikhil Doru 40, Dishant Yagnik 58, Afroz Khan 50 not out, Jagdesh Patel four for 105) vs. Gujarat 17 for no loss in nine overs.

At Pach `A': Mumbai Colts 175 in 60.3 overs (Ashok Kadam 43, Jalaj Saxena four for 69) vs. MP 77 for two in 29 overs.

At IIT-Chemplast: TNCA President's XI 292 in 89.2 overs (R. Prasanna 57, Sunil Viswanathan 51, J. Syed Mohamed 56, Rohan Prem six for 75) vs. Kerala XI.

At ICL-Gurunanak: Tripura 118 in 48.2 overs vs. SPIC-TNCA XI 163 for no loss in 39 overs (M. Vijay 88 batting, S. Vidyut 72 batting).

At Mayajaal: Maharashtra 207 in 75.1 overs (Abhishek Raut 40, Pragyan Ojha six for 78) vs. Hyderabad 42 for one in 15 overs.
