Sadbhawana Day pledge administered
Mr. Karunanidhi administered the pledge on promoting communal harmony and amity at a function held on the Parade Ground in Fort St.George to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. "Take action against LTTE supporters"
Participating in a discussion in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Anbarasu said of late some political leaders in the State were openly canvassing support and issuing statements in favour of the LTTE. Chennai official jailed for demanding bribe
The court imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on him. The court found Sridhar guilty of offences under section 13 (ii) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The accused demanded bribe for not taking action against the owner for operating his illegal granite quarry.
SAG centre to be inaugurated on Sunday
R. Subramanian, Administrator of SAI-SAG centre, Mayiladuturai, told The Hindu on Friday that the centre had selected 120 players (boys and girls) in athletics, volleyball, basketball, hockey and weightlifting under residential and day boarding scheme. He said in connection with the inauguration of the centre, a "Sathbhavana" would be organised from Railway overbridge to Rajan Thottam in Mayiladuturai at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Staff Reporter

The police said the accused obstructed Rasaiyan, a head constable on duty in front of the Bhathrakaliammankoil at Tharuvaikulam, from discharging his duty. The incident occurred when the policeman asked Ravindran to move away from a group of women standing there.

Man killed
Constable dies in road accident
Police said the constable was thrown off the two-wheeler he was riding, after being rammed by a van at Tirukokaranam. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
2,813 work to be executed
Collector Anil Meshram said the outlay included rice component of 3,967 tonnes. Work like laying cement roads, desilting and deepening of tanks and supply channels, construction of noon meal centres and kitchens and setting up of pathway to burial ground would be taken up under the programme, he said.
