WARM RECEPTION: Governor Rameshwar Thakur being received at the airport by TTD Executive Officer A.P.V.N. Sharma on Friday.
TIRUPATI: The temple city of Tirupati is going to be a beehive of activities as a host of VVIPs will be landing here to take part in different programmes on Saturday and Sunday. While Governor Rameshwar Thakur has already arrived on Friday afternoon, some of the dignitaries who would be here tomorrow are Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan, Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) R.A. Mashelkar and UGC Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat. This is in addition to scores of State Ministers, MPs and MLAs who will be here to attend the wedding of Congress MLA P. Ramachandra Reddy's son. As for the Governor's itinerary on Saturday, he would attend the wedding and later proceed to the SV University to preside over its 48th Annual Convocation. He would later participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the TTD's Sri Venkateswara Vedic University coming up on a campus opposite the Regional Science Centre here. Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy would also participate in the programme after having a darshan of Lord Venkateswara. The Chief Minister would leaver for Hyderabad by helicopter around 4 pm. Mr. Rajasekharan will be in the town to inaugurate a national seminar on `Panchayat Raj Institutions After the 73rd Constitution Amendment: A New Deal for Rural India' being organised by the Tirupati-based NGO, Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India. At another programme on Sunday, M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman of the National Commission on Farmers would deliver a lecture after receiving the Rajiv Gandhi Outstanding Leadership Award-2006. Mr. Thakur would be the chief guest at the function. He would later take off to Hyderabad at 1 p.m. . Another VIP's visit on cards is that of TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu. He is expected to tour the western tract of the district visiting the chickungunya medical camps to be run by the TDP. Party sources said that he may also attend the wedding here tomorrow sometime as he and the MLA were collegemates in SVU.
