KADAPA: The Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Union leaders on Friday demanded the arrest of Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy on charges of engineering an attack bid on the office of a vernacular daily and burning the copies of the daily. Public representatives who were bound to safeguard valuable forest wealth took part in the attack bid, APCLC district president V. Venkata Reddy, secretary C. Venkateswarlu and joint secretary G.L. Muralikrishna alleged in a statement. They also flayed DGP Swaranjit Sen for his reported remarks that the media was beset with `news gunya'. Meanwhile, Awaaz district president S. Fayaz and secretary S. Magbul Basha condemned the ransacking of Kadapa DFO's office and a bid to attack the office of a vernacular daily and described them as undemocratic acts. They demanded the arrest of those involved in the incidents. Scribes called on Kadapa SP Y. Nagi Reddy and sought the arrest of ruling party functionaries who tried to attack the office of the daily. They termed it as an attempt to gag the press.
