ANANTAPUR: Union Minister of State for Surface Transport and Shipping K.H. Muniappa was gheraoed by the activists of Telugu Desam Party at Kadiri in the district on Friday protesting against neglect of 1.5 km badly damaged stretch on NH-205, which intersects the town. Led by Chand Basha, Devanand and Aravind Babu, the TDP activists surrounded the Union Minister as he boarded his vehicle after visiting the Narasimha Swamy temple. The TDP activists reminded the Minister that it was he who had laid the foundation stone for the repair works last year, but there had been no progress after that. The road was badly damaged and was not motorable. The Minister had promised to get it repaired with Rs. 5 crores by laying it with cement and concrete. The Minister assured the protesters that tenders for the work would be called in a week's time.
