CBI court convicts official

Kochi:
Thee CBI Special Court here on Friday sentenced B.J. Sridhar, a Deputy Director in the Department of Mines Safety, Chennai, to three years imprisonment for demanding bribe from a quarry owner. It also imposed a fine of Rs.75,000 on him.
The CBI case was that he had demanded Rs.2,000 on July 16, 2004, from K.P. Ouseph, the owner of St. Basil's Granite at Pattikkad near Palakkad. The accused demanded bribe for not taking action against Ouseph for operating his illegal granite quarry.
