Farmer dies of cardiac arrest

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Failure of rain and the impending crop failure has claimed its first victim in the district on Thursday night, as E. Sanjeev (60) of Ramapuram village in Bathalapalli mandal died of cardiac arrest after the groundnut seed sown in his 25 acres land either did not germinate completely or germinated sparsely.

According to information reaching here, the farmer had been undergoing mental trauma for the last 10 days due to non-germination of groundnut cultivated by him.

The farmer reportedly has a debt burden of Rs. 3 lakhs piled up over the last few years due to frequent crop failure. He had borrowed both from banks as well as private moneylenders.
