THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the Communist Party could come to power in the State only because it followed the trail blazed by P. Krishna Pillai, founder leader of the Communist Party in the State. Unveiling the bust of Krishna Pillai at the Thiruvananthapuram district committee office of the CPI(M) here on Friday to mark the leader's birth centenary, Mr. Achuthanandan said he became a full-time party worker on account of Krishna Pillai's encouragement and support. He was a member of the Communist Party and a leader of workers at the Aspinwall Company. It was Krishna Pillai who egged him to work among farm workers and become a full-time political activist, the Chief Minister recalled. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar chaired the meeting. Party district secretary Piranppankode Murali welcomed the gathering and district panchayat president Anavur Nagappan proposed a vote of thanks. Among those present was Mayor C. Jayan Babu.
