BRUSSELS : Defending champion Kim Clijsters will miss the U.S. Open because of a left wrist injury. The U.S. Open starts on August 28. A posting on her website on Thursday said an MRI exam and X-ray showed the problem is worse than originally believed and that the Belgian will be sidelined for the coming weeks and probably two months, meaning she'll also miss the Fed Cup final in September. The No. 2-ranked Clijsters was forced to quit during the second set of her match on Wednesday at the hard-court tournament in Montreal. She had the wrist taped early in that set, but then fell on the wrist while reaching for a shot. She'll return to Belgium for more tests, her website said. AP
