KHAMMAM: CPI(M) State secretary B. V. Raghavulu said on Thursday that there was a yawning gap between words and deeds of the government so far as the implementation of flood relief was concerned. He visited some of the flood-hit areas in Bhadrachalam division. He said life in the affected villages was far from being normal. The plight of people who were back in their homes was more pitiable. Calling for a realistic approach in enumeration of flood losses, he said mud houses, which were under water for more than a week would certainly take more time to collapse. The condition of such dwellings should be taken into consideration for payment of compensation.
`Glaring anomalies'
He pointed out that there was no uniformity in distribution of relief. While the flood-hit families were given seven kg of rice in Peddanarsingapeta, those in Sabari Kothagudem were given 19 kg each. He said the government must complete projects such Inchampalli and Dummugudem to find a solution to the flood problem instead of going in for Polavaram project which was posing a serious threat to the riverside habitation in Khammam district. The CPI(M) leader distributed 780 kits of relief collected by the Khammam unit of the party among the affected families.
