DEHRA DUN: Ram Singh Kaira, State organisation secretary of the ruling Congress here, attempted self-immolation on Friday and angry mobs of Uttarakhand activists forced closure of markets and educational institutions in Haldwani and blocked the Haldwani-Naini Tal highway demanding immediate withdrawal of cases filed against 19 activists during the October 1994 movement for a separate hill State. Activists were enraged after a local court issued non-bailable warrants against them despite CM's assurance of amnesty.
