Demand to declare education and employment as Fundamental Rights

Students take out a protest march and also seek common school system

NEW DELHI: Youths and students under the banner of the All-India Students' Association and the Revolutionary Youth Association took out a protest march from Ramlila grounds to Jantar Mantar here on Friday demanding that the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre declare education and employment as Fundamental Rights.

Implementation

Holding aloft banners and flags demanding universal employment guarantee, the protesters called for immediate passage of the Right to Education Bill and introduction of common school system, besides implementation of 27 per cent reservation and 54 per cent increase in seats in higher education without any further delay or dilution.

Besides students from the Benaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, youths from Bihar, Punjab, Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand also took part in the march.
