MANGALORE: State Government has sanctioned Rs.71 lakh for the construction of the new court building here. This is in addition to the initial grant of Rs.35 lakh provided under the centrally sponsored scheme, K.S. Sharma, president of Mangalore Bar Association said at a press conference here on Thursday.
Old building demolished
The Public Works Department had demolished the old court building and construction would start soon, he said. District in-charge Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty and Yogish Bhat, MLA had promised that another Rs. 3.5 crore would be provided. The Public Works Department had said that the work could be completed by 2007, if there is uninterrupted allocation of funds, he added. Mr. Sharma said the proposals to have a permanent lok adalat, additional district consumer forum and a family court in the district had been approved by the Government. An area of 550 sq.m has been identified to construct chambers for junior lawyers within the court premises. An application had been forwarded to the Government and the High Court seeking approval for the construction, he said.
