Leela Bhat is dead

MANGALORE: Senior Kannada writer B. Leela Bhat died at Bannur in Puttur taluk, Dakshina Kannada, on Friday. She was 81.

After retiring as a Kannada professor from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi, she was residing at Bannur.

She had been in teaching profession for 30 years. She wrote several books in Kannada on Tulu language and culture.

"Tulunadina Sasyaradhane'', "Bhoota Nagara Naduve" and "Astha Marthana" are some of her noted works.

She was a close associate of Jnanpith award winner late Shivarama Karanth.
