Special Correspondent

Opinion poll has found that 78 per cent of respondents rate Chief Minister Karunanidhi's performance as good

Sixty seven per cent of the 9,864 respondents from all over the State has described as "good," the overall performance of the Government, according to the survey conducted by the Chennai-based Goodwill Communications, during August 9-14. The personal standing of Chief Minister M. Fr. Gaspar Raj said 78 per cent of the respondents rated as good, Mr. Karunanidhi's performance as Chief Minister.

The approval ratings for the rice scheme and the move to make Tamil compulsory in all schools were 76 per cent and 77 per cent.

The respondents felt that the move on Tamil was sensible as against the earlier approach of trying to teach all the subjects in Tamil.

The survey also revealed that 61 per cent of the respondents disapproved of the Government's decision on the Farmers' Security Programme. Forty four per cent of the people did not see favourably the large-scale transfer of senior officers, while 41 per cent was of the view that there was no clarity on the schemes of providing colour television sets free and two acres of land to landless farmers.
