Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday unveiled the ceremonial foundation stone for the proposed buildings at Maharani Arts and Science and Ranganarayan Chellaram (R.C.) colleges. The women's college will get additional classrooms, laboratories and an auditorium while R.C. College will have more classrooms and a computer lab. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 13 crore and the work would be completed in nine months, H.D. Revanna, Minister for Public Works and Energy, said. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said the Government was committed to providing quality education at all levels. Five hundred high schools, 200 junior colleges and 25 Morarji residential schools would be started by the Government, he said. In the next budget, provision would be made to open first degree colleges in 68 taluks and employment generation schemes would be started soon to provide jobs to over one lakh students, Mr. Yediyurappa said. Mr. Kumaraswamy promised the students that he would ask the officials concerned to take steps to reduce the traffic congestion near Maharani Arts and Science College. "I have directed the BMP and BDA commissioners to look into whether a flyover or underpass can be constructed near the college," he said. Minister for Large and Medium Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu, Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda and Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok were present.
