Nursery student dies in accident

NEW DELHI: An eight-year-old girl was run over by a mini-bus attached to her school while she was on her way home at Timarpur in North Delhi on Friday. The bus driver has been arrested.

According to the police, the accident took place around 2-15 p.m. at Sant Nagar in Timarpur when the bus was ferrying home students of Apex Public School. Pakhee, a nursery student, was apparently perched on the foothold when a sudden jerk threw her off from the moving bus.

Before the driver could jam the brakes, Pakhee came under the wheels. She fell unconscious and was rushed to a nearby nursing home by the bus driver, Nitin. After an hour where efforts to revive her proved futile, she was rushed to Sushrut Trauma Centre, the police said.

Pakhee was declared dead on arrival, following which the school authorities were informed.

Pakhee's father Rajesh works in the stock exchange and her mother Anita is a Railways' employee.

Parcel bomb hoax at Jama Masjid

NEW DELHI: A call claiming that a parcel bomb had been planted inside the Jama Masjid premises prompted the police to carry out an extensive search of the complex on Friday. While no explosives were found, the Jama Masjid authorities raised objections to the entry of the police inside the complex without permission.

Around 2-30 p.m., the police received a call claiming that a parcel bomb kept inside Jama Masjid would explode soon. Subsequently, the area Station House Officer along with some other policemen rushed to the mosque and searched the premises.

The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, however, objected to the manner in which the police carried out the search in the mosque premises. Later, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Neeraj Thakur held a meeting with the Shahi Imam to sort out the issue.

Fake currency racket busted, four held

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the Sabzi Mandi police in North Delhi on charges of circulating counterfeit currency notes. The police claim to have recovered fake notes of Rs. 100 denominations worth over Rs. 12,600.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminal elements were pushing counterfeit currency notes into the market, the Sabzi Mandi police laid a trap and arrested one Suresh while he was buying fruits and making the payment allegedly through a Rs. 100 fake note.

During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he along with his accomplices was into counterfeit currency business.

Gangster arrested

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered a country-made pistol from his possession.

According to the police, the accused, Ashok, disclosed that he was member of one Dharmender gang and was involved in cases of theft and the Arms Act.

He along with his accomplices Taj Pal, Veda and Tittu allegedly stabbed one Tinka at Sultanpuri on August 6. The police said Ashok was also wanted in a case registered at Ashok Vihar police station.
