ALAPPUZHA: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the Union Government should announce a package for Kerala farmers who are facing a crisis, on the lines of the one provided for Vidharbha in Maharashtra. The Left parties would pressure the UPA Government to provide more aid to the farmers, he said on Saturday inaugurating a memorial meeting for the founder of the Communist movement in the State, Krishna Pillai, near the late leader's house at Kannarkatt, Muhamma. Mr. Vijayan said the Government would consider reducing the interest on loans taken by farmers from the State Cooperative Bank. Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran; MP C.S. Sujata; MLAs C.K. Sadasivan and A.M. Aarif and Alappuzha district panchayat president R. Nazar spoke.
