Ernakulam rides on Daya's form

Principal Correspondent

KOCHI: Daya Elsa Jacob was the star of the day as Ernakulam defeated Kozhikode 2-0 and retained the girls' under-16 inter-district title in the MAK Lubricants Kerala State sub-junior badminton championship at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Saturday evening.

Daya, the 13-year-old daughter of former State star Suresh Thomas, pulled off a big surprise by jolting Kozhikode's Parvathy Suresh, the sub-junior singles second seed, in the opener.

Parvathy won the opening game and led 9-4 in the second. But Daya bounced back splendidly, attacking the corners, and sewed up the match.
