Rajiv remembered

NEW DELHI: On the eve of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress (DPYC) distributed tricycles and artificial limbs to physically challenged persons at a function here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, All-India Congress Committee general secretary Ashok Gehlot described Rajiv Gandhi as a leader of great vision.

DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma distributed the tricycles and artificial limbs to the physically challenged persons, while DPYC president Amit Malik welcomed the guests who included AICC secretary Major Ved Prakash and senior party leader S.C. Vats.

Photo seminar

NEW DELHI: A two-day seminar on "Appreciation of Photographic Art" was inaugurated at Masjid Road here on Saturday. Organised jointly by Kriti Club and School of Fototechnik, the seminar is being held to mark World Photography Day that falls on Sunday.

Discussions on various topics including "Can all photographers become photo-artists?" and "What constitutes photographic art?" will also be held.

New deposit scheme

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has come up with a tax saver fixed deposit scheme. Under it, customers can open their PNB tax saver fixed deposit accounts in all the branches of the bank with an initial deposit of Rs.100 or a maximum deposit of Rs. 1 lakh per year for a period of five years and a maximum of 10 years. The rate of interest will be 8 per cent per annum, while for senior citizens the rate of interest will 8.5 per cent per annum.

Cultural programme

NEW DELHI: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) in association with the Department of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs has organised a three-day youth cultural exchange programme here in the Capital.

Titled "Utsav Jammu and Kashmir", the programme inaugurated on Saturday intends to strengthen the bonds between the people of Kashmir and the rest of the country. It is also aimed at re-discovering the composite culture of the country.

A large number of youths from Jammu and Kashmir are taking part in the programme. Speaking about the programme, NYKS Director-General Shakeel Ahmad Khan observed: "The programme is a unique initiative of NYKS that provides ample opportunities to youths from Jammu and Kashmir to visit important places of historical and cultural significance in different parts of the country."
