JAIPUR: The Thar Express on Saturday chugged off from Munabao, last railway station on the Indian side, around 4 p.m., instead of 10 a.m. as scheduled. The historic journey was delayed as 182 more passengers were accommodated in an 11th-hour decision. Despite the delay, everything went well with the first run of the Indian train after the resumption of the Munabao-Khokhrapar route between India and Pakistan six months ago. Two additional coaches were attached to the seven bogies to accommodate the excess passengers. Though no official celebration was planned, the bogies were decorated with buntings and flowers. A small crowd of mediapersons and officials cheered as the train whizzed past the corridored border track to reach the zero point station in Pakistan in an hour. Khokhrapar is 15 km from the zero point. As part of the drill, jeeps of the Border Security Force followed the train on a parallel road route till it crossed the no-man's land to make sure that nobody jumped off the train to enter India again. Thereafter, Pakistani rangers took over the road vigil.
