Ganesh festival: police fiat to organisers

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao has said organisers of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations should obtain no-objection certificates from traffic police, Department of Fire Services, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) for installing Ganesh idols at public places.

The commissioner has banned the use of loud speakers and bursting of crackers from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the celebrations. The organisers have to ensure the safety of the Ganesh idols at the pandals during the night by posting volunteers, he said.

Mr. Achuta Rao also advised the public to lodge complaints with the jurisdictional police station if any person or organisation tried to forcibly collect donations in the name of Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations.
