Adulterated petrol racket busted; 11 arrested

The police say the adulteration was being done at two places

BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials have arrested 11 persons and busted a petrol adulteration racket.

The police seized 117 barrels of solvents, 768 litres of adulterated petrol, chemicals and two lorries, together estimated at Rs. 25 lakh.

The police said the adulteration of petrol was being done at two units of A.S. Chemical Industries, owned by Altaf Ali, on Govindapura Main Road and Nagavara in Kadugondanahalli police station limits.

While the police arrested 11 persons allegedly involved in the illicit trade, Altaf Ali is at large. The Kadugondanahalli police have registered a case.

Ornaments looted

Burglars struck at a house in Subramanyanagar police station limits looting gold ornaments and a mobile phone, together worth Rs. 1 lakh.

The police said the incident took place at Mahesh B. Shivalli's house on 9th Main, 2nd Block, Rajajinagar.

When Mahesh and his wife Savitha, both software engineers, were asleep, thieves entered their house by opening the bolt of the main door by putting their hands through an adjoining window.

They entered the bedroom in which the couple were sleeping and made away with the jewellery keep in a safe, the police said.

Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, a neighbour noticed that the main door of Shivalli's house was open and alerted him.

The Subramanyanagar police have registered a case.

Two killed

Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Friday.

Prasanna (33) died when a lorry rammed his motorcycle on the Outer Ring Road, off Central Silk Board junction, around 5.30 p.m.

The Madivala traffic police have registered a case and seized the lorry.

In the other incident, Tirupati (35), a pedestrian, was killed when a lorry hit him on the Outer Ring Road, near Horamavu junction, around 12.45 p.m.

The Banaswadi traffic police have registered a case.

Arrested

The HAL police arrested four persons who allegedly robbed seven people in separate incidents on the pretext of giving them a lift in their vehicles.

The police have seized three multi-utility vehicles, four mobile phones and a palmtop from the arrested persons. The police gave their names as Manjunath (26) and Roopesh (26), both residents of Nagashettihalli, Kumar (31) of Hoskote and Manjunath (30) of Bommasandra.

The arrested were involved in seven cases of robbery reported from K.R. Puram, HAL, Yeshwanthapur, and Whitefield police station limits, the police said.

Recovered

The Kadugondanahalli police arrested two persons on charges of house break-in and theft and recovered from them gold ornaments worth Rs. 2 lakh. The accused had stolen the jewellery from Syed Ismail's house in Vinobanagar on June 30, the police said.
