NEW DELHI: Unruly scenes were witnessed at the general body meeting of the Press Club of India here on Saturday. Overturned tables and members shouting at office-bearers of the outgoing managing committee marred the proceedings. The brief turmoil was on account of members' disagreement with an incomplete annual report and questions over accounts presented for consideration of the Club as also the attitude of some office-bearers. The meeting, which was attended by just about one per cent of the 4,000-odd members of the Club, nearly ended in confusion before some senior members stepped in to restore order. The majority of those who attended the general body meeting after a brief adjournment due to lack of quorum were members who were candidates for the fresh elections. Two veteran members expressed disgust over the manner in which some members behaved, including moving in a menacing fashion towards the Chair with whom there was disagreement. At one stage, a veteran member said if things were not restored there would be a situation when assistance of law enforcement authorities might have to be sought. Subsequently the meeting proceeded without further disruption with those assembled rejecting the accounts presented by the outgoing committee.
